Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF)

Formation

The CNCF was formed through a collaboration between Google and the [[Linux Foundation]].^[400-devops__06-Kubernetes__k8s-ithelp__Day2__README.md] Its formation was announced alongside the release of Kubernetes v1.0 on July 21, 2015.^[400-devops__06-Kubernetes__k8s-ithelp__Day2__README.md]

Mission

The foundation's mission is to foster the adoption of [[Cloud native computing|cloud-native]] computing and to maintain the necessary services, support, and tools for these platforms^[400-devops__06-Kubernetes__k8s-ithelp__Day2__README.md]. It manages the ecosystem surrounding Kubernetes, a portable, extensible open-source platform for managing containerized workloads and services^[400-devops__06-Kubernetes__k8s-ithelp__Day2__README.md].
