MOC (Map of Content) methodology

MOC (Map of Content) is a note-taking methodology designed to organize knowledge by establishing hierarchical structures connected through hyperlinks^[600-developer__tools__obsidian__000-MOC-obsidian.md].

Instead of relying on traditional nested folders or a strict hierarchy, the MOC approach treats the knowledge base as a network. It achieves this by connecting individual notes via links to form a "Knowledge web"^[600-developer__tools__obsidian__000-MOC-obsidian.md].

Core Principles

The fundamental concept of MOC is to stratify notes and use hyperlinks to string them together^[600-developer__tools__obsidian__000-MOC-obsidian.md]. This creates a map of content that serves as a navigational hub or entry point for a specific topic.

  • Decentralized Linking: Rather than forcing files into a deep directory structure, relationships are maintained through direct links between notes.
  • Knowledge Network: The methodology views the collection of notes not as a static tree, but as a dynamic web of information.
