Zettelkasten Note Types

The Zettelkasten method distinguishes between specific categories of notes to manage information effectively. These categories separate temporary inspiration from processed knowledge and active project management^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].

Fleeting Note (靈感筆記)

Fleeting notes are used to capture quick thoughts, ideas, or reminders as they arise^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].

Permanent Note (永久筆記)

Permanent notes represent the core of the Zettelkasten. Unlike fleeting notes, they are written in a self-contained manner where "one note records only one thing"^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. This adheres to the principle of atomicity, ensuring that each note is concise and focused^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. They must be able to be understood independently^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. Authors should explain concepts in their own words rather than copying content^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md] and include their own thoughts within the card^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].

Literature Note (讀書筆記)

Literature notes are taken while reading or consuming source material^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. It is important to record the source of the data to avoid copyright issues and to track the origin of the note^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].

These notes are associated with specific active projects or undertakings, distinct from the long-term storage of permanent notes^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].

Linking Principles

A fundamental rule of the Zettelkasten is that every note generated must be linked back to the original note^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. When creating a link, the user should annotate why the link was created^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md]. To structure this web of notes, users can create "Link pages" (Hub pages) to string related notes into a short text^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md] and use a "Master Directory" (Epic) to serve as a reference point^[300-閱讀筆記__Zettelkasten.md].
